Time to realise .....

Everyone shall pass this way but once. Any good that we can do or any happiness that we can give, let us do it now, for we may never pass this way again.

So when you understand the profundity of life, that though the soul is perpetual, life is not a perpetual thing - not the bodily life - then you will feel that you don't have much time to do what is good. Whatever good I must do, I must do it now. Anything you don't give your life to its not worth doing.

Build your wealth, but a wealth you can take with you. Here everything remains behind. Even this body you will have to leave. You are not only going to have to leave your house, this body which is the house of your soul, even this has to be vacated. And after you, it will be destroyed. Know this, and know that all your life you must struggle to lay up that wealth which will accompany you, which is spiritual wealth.

Elephants and Our Minds

Why the Elephants Don't Run?

A number of years ago, I had the rather unique experience of being backstage in a famous Garden at my place during a circus. To say the least, it was a fascinating experience. I was able to walk around looking at the lions, tigers, giraffes and all the other circus animals. As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not. I saw a trainer near by and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they row up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They think the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free." I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they could not, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? How many of us are being held back by old, outdated beliefs that no longer serve us? Have you avoided trying something new because of a limiting belief? Worse, how many of us are being held back by someone else's limiting beliefs? Do you tell yourself you can't sell because you're not a salesperson?

Particularly in starting or running a business, we are cautioned not to take risks, usually by well intentioned friends and family. How many of us have heard, "You can't do that?" These are the dream stealers who, due to their own limiting beliefs, will attempt to discourage you from living your dreams. You must ignore them at all cost! I am not suggesting that you should not seek advice from qualified individuals and mentors, but that you avoid like the plague, being swayed by the limiting beliefs of others, especially people who are not in their own business.

Challenge your own limiting beliefs by questioning them. If you begin to question a belief, you automatically weaken it. The more you question your limiting beliefs, the more they are weakened. It's like kicking the legs out from under a stool. Once you weaken one leg, the stool begins to lose its balance and fall. Think back to a time when you "sold" someone on yourself. We are selling all the time. You have to sell your ideas to your spouse, your children, and your employees - even your banker. Maybe, as a child, you sold Girl Scout cookies or magazine subscriptions to raise money for your school team. That was selling too!

Once you realize you are, in fact, a capable salesperson, you have weakened that old belief and began to replace it with a new, empowering one. Look for references to support the new beliefs you want to cultivate. As in the example of the stool, you want to reinforce your beliefs by adding more and more "legs" to them. Find people who have accomplished what you want to accomplish, discover what they did and model their behavior. Remember back to times in your past when you were successful and use that experience to propel yourself forward. If your challenge is in sales, read sales books and listen to tapes or attend sales seminars. This is a critical area of your business. One that cannot be undermined by limiting beliefs.

There is a technique called "fake it until you make it" that works well. I am not suggesting you live in denial, just that you begin to see yourself succeeding. Visualize your successes. See yourself vividly in your minds eye making the sale and reaching your goals. Affirm, over and over, that you are succeeding.

Write your affirmations daily. Of course, make sure you take the appropriate action.

As it says in the Bible, "Faith without works is dead."

Remember that your subconscious mind does not know the difference between real and imaginary. Before you go on a sales call, take a moment and mentally rehearse the scene, just like actors and athletes do. Tell yourself, "I'm a great salesperson. " Do this over and over, especially just before a sales call. See the sale being made. See and feel the success. You will be pleasantly amazed at the result. Don't take my word for it. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

It has been said throughout history that what ever you believe, with conviction, you can achieve. Don't be like the poor elephant and go through your life stuck because of a limiting belief you were given or developed years ago. Take charge of your life and live it to the fullest. You deserve the best! Aren't We ?

"Love" - fighting for its place

Good morning.... go brush your teeth ?
Starts the day for many little angels all around the world
In fact such words are even hardly found in the place of need
And quite so often the parents are missing out the graceful touch
Rather than the formal wishing and instructing the work
Will it not sound better when someone says
Shall we wake up and have a good day ?
Lets get ready for the day like yesterday ?
By saying so, one can feel the well connected relationship
Can't blame anyone, neither the elders nor the society
The life has become so mechanical these days
When thoughts and likings are being thrust upon the kids
Either willingly or not, they do it and keep following it
Sometimes due to love and more often due to the terror

Just because of the stress being transformed from place to place
The love which was destined to be showered has manoeuvered a bit
It is no more love when it has changed its dimensions
Not welcomed and has become a threat to the children
In the name of discipline this world is slowly losing the love touch
Spare the rod spoil the child an old saying
Must be thrown away as each individual has started to recognise
The need for respect and the nature of love
The elders believe that they understand the kids well
But its not true always, probably one can only assume and
Not definitely they could say its a perfect relationship they have
As years pass by, the elders consider their duties have been done
But who knows that they were, at the cost of the innocent kids' feelings
Its hard now a days to see the people spending time together
Whilst running after the social world to take their own desired places
Most of them have lost their bondings with their own family

Man's priority in this world has become so strange
For the future of tomorrow, he has started to burn the present day
Hoping the new days will bring shining glory to his name
For the sake of having financial benefits
He has forgotten to live for his soul's benefits
He is denying each day to spend for his own happiness
In the name of ambitions he has disregarded the love
At the end of the day, realising that he has mishandled the situation
It will be too late to recognise the value of relations
The time of taking everything for granted is slowly passing by
The generation who has dominated so far is stepping down gradually
Giving ways to the budding youth to make a difference
In the way the live, to make the world a better place to live
Let there be just one religion though out the world
And let it be just only one thing that could have the power
Adding suitable colours to the life and toning the society
One day will be there very soon
With Love flowing all the way through
Wishing everyone a prosperous life to live

Its just the matter of hopes and beliefs

All of a sudden there came a discussion
Whether to be attached to the relations
Or not to be bonded to their feelings
Like the lotus leaf floating on the water
Advices flowing my way to be so
With which one can claim to have a peaceful life
Whilst following such a life style
Why should someone try to be someone else

If he is born to enjoy the offered pleasures
Why should he deny and say a big No
Why there are boundaries when it comes to expressions
You feel like playing, you play and
You feel like enjoy learning, you do learn
If you feel you wanna do something, better you do it
Better late than never, or else one day you will regret for sure
For having missed to seize the opportunity

Lives who have lived along with you
Shall one day go very far away laughing at you
Where even a single thought couldn't be shared
No one knows what tomorrow is gonna bring for you
Better show your feelings to people straight away
And atleast you might feel better that you have expressed
No matter you succeed or torn apart
You could be content with what you have done

Though Life is definitely full of uncertainties
But sometimes miracles do happen
Our thoughts could one day change into words
Bursting out with what we have had hidden all these days
And those words would one day become actions
Blossoming with the hopes to make one's life more better
Its just the matter of hope and belief
One has in his own life
Who else other than you could believe
If you aren't gonna fight for your own passion

Life is not always that sweet to experience...

There came a message from an old friend of mine "Hello , You there ? ....", Immediately came the shocking news...Of course a deadly one...My school mate who used to share the same bench with me, met with an accident and died from injuries suffered in the accident occurred late Sunday ( 13/04/2008 ). More shocking was the way he suffered before he finally gave up drowning into the freezing water. We could have seen in the movies of such heartbreaking accidents, but to realise them in the real life, its not as same as what we think.

Sources conveyed that there were 4 people in the car which went into the river about 10 p.m. on sunday and all the poor victims could do is nothing but try ringing 911 for help as the water outside as well as inside was freezing cold so were their limbs. Being the only man, my friend whilst drowning tried hard to contact the emergency team at least to help the other three Indian women who were aboard fighting for their lives too, out of them two are now in critical and one is in serious condition at the Regions Hospital.

He has just celebrated his birthday on 29/03/2008 and had plans to go back to India and get married. Also to his credit, he was recommended to be a project manager (PM) soon in the leading MNC of Indian IT industry. It is believed that he would be the youngest of all the emerging PMs. He was good at sports, elocution, academics and even taking up the responsibilities. He was a role model to many of his peers. As tears roll down the cheeks of your dear ones, Boy... you will be missed for sure.... I'm proud at least I spent few years in school with you dude... you are a legend.

May his soul rest in peace and his family recover soon from this deadly shock and return to their normal day to day activities.

Man what a strange thing this death is causing to people. Dreams shattered, hopes vanished, if at all a person could know the day when he is gonna say goodbye to this world, he could have planned things well in advance before he left. For people who are wasting their time unknowing the fact that time will wait for no one, its time to wake up and be responsible for their own lives. Do what you could do for the day focusing the prosperous future. Keep the family happy and throw away the egoistic difference of opinions among people and live a happy life, as no one knows when the doors to this world would be shut for you.

China Dictates and also India diplomatically obeys

WE HAVE recently witnessed violent protests in Tibet. I support the struggle of the people of Tibet. The question that arises now is what is the case all about and how is India affected by this conflict?

Recently, Indian Prime Minister visited Arunachal Pradesh. While addressing a rally in Itanagar, he said that Arunachal Pradesh is India’s land of rising sun. China lodged its protest on Manmohan Singh’s assertion over this claim of India. China has always said that Arunachal Pradesh is part of China. Officials on Indian side are numb since then over an issue, which has potential to turn into a controversy.

Pranab Mukherjee said, on February 27 that China has claimed 90000 sq km of Indian territory including Tawang in Arunachal. China even denied a visa to IAS officer from Arunachal Pradesh when around 100 IAS officers were going for official visit to China, sometime back. India did not react to that issue. China has been claiming Arunachal for long time but the silence from New Delhi is definitely a concern.

So lets’ get into some facts -

What is the dispute all about?

China officially claims 90000 sq km of land in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. But it is mainly interested in Tawang district. This district borders Tibet and Bhutan. China says that district belonged to Tibet and wants India to return it in order to settle the border dispute.

Conflict of China and Tibet

Tibet has a history of at least 1300 years of independence from China. In 821 both countries signed a treaty and recognised, Tibet and China to be independent nation. During 13th and 14th century, both China and Tibet came under the influence of the Mongol Empire. Mongols conquered China while Tibetans and Mongols established the unique ‘priest patron’ relationship, also know as CHOYON.

The Mongol Empire ended in the mid 14th century. Mongolia became a separate country and by 15th century, political authority in Tibet passed into the hands of religious hegemonies and then to Dalai Lamas. In 1639, the fifth Dalai Lama established another CHOYON relationship with the Manchu Empire. Manchu occupied China and established the Manchu dynasty.

Manchu officials lived in Tibet from 1728 to 1911. In 1911, Sun Yat Sen, declared Manchus as foreigners and not ethnic Chinese and declared China as a republic. In 1914, China claimed Tibet but Tibet continued as fully sovereign nation till it was invaded by China. China claims that both China and Tibet came under influence of Mongols, so it is believed to be one nation. But this claim was not recognised for, which China carried on gross violations of human rights post 1949 invasion. This invasion marked the border dispute with India.

When Tibet declared itself as independent nation in 1912, then British in India convened a meeting at Simla to ensure that violence in Tibet did not reach India, which lead to signing of Simla convention between China, India and Tibet. The accord gave China suzerainty over most of Tibet and boundary defined under this treaty know as McMahon line. The British subsequently declared government of India an official border with Tibet. However, later after signing the treaty, China reneged saying the ‘provincial government’ of Tibet had no right to sign such an accord. It then went on to stake claim to huge areas of land surrounding Tibet, which included Aksai Chin in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh in east. After occupying Tibet, China occupied a large tract (approx. 38000 km) of Aksai Chin and build national highway 29, connecting it to eastern province of Xinjiang, which was considered as an illegal occupation by China..

Betrayal of UN and India

Tibet suffered, after it was invaded by China. It made a plea to the United Nations (UN) but UN was unable to make any sort of decisions at that time. India also never protested against Chinese intrusion in Tibet. India now looks to maintain a healthy relation with China due to pressure from business community and Tibet issue had taken a backstage. The government must realise that they have some responsibility towards Tibet that India has failed so far to exert any pressure on China.

Current Scenario

In November 2007, MPs from Arunachal Pradesh brought in notice to government of India that Chinese incursion into state are becoming more frequent. The official figures quote 146 incursions in 2007. Chinese are even preventing locals from going up to regions where they had been going for years.

China is pursuing the same policy it followed in Aksai Chin, claim-repeat the claim-grab-hold-let time pass. China openly claims Arunachal Pradesh to be a part of their country. India today has no support or sympathy from the world when China made such claims.

Indian government has not learnt any lesson from Aksai Chin. The silence from New Delhi can cost us Arunachal Pradesh. It even disturbs the local people on both sides in line of control for, which India needs to take up some bold steps.

The only way out for India is to recognise Tibet as an occupied territory. India should thus, negotiate border dispute with an independent Tibet and not China. The recent eruption of violent protests in Tibet marks the high scale violation of Human Rights. The people of Tibet are struggling for the right to live in peace and to freely practice their religion. India should bring the issue on center stage, as India will also be getting affected directly from the unrest in Tibet.

What will you do without freedom ?

What will you do without the freedom ?
Will you fight against the suppression?
No, says the layman
Yes of course, fight you may die
Run you may live, at least a while
And dying in your beds
many years from now
But would you be willing to trade
All the days from this day to death
For one chance to come back here
And tell those who are causing the pain
In the form of a cultural genocide
That they might take our lives
But will never take our freedom

Are we still united as a country in India ?

All Tamil movies will be taken off theatres across Karnataka from today (02/04/2008) to protest against the Hognekal issue. The members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, who met in Bengaluru on Tuesday, also decided that no Tamil channels will be aired anywhere in Karnataka from Wednesday onwards.

Members of the Vedike, led by their leader Narayana Gowda, said that there was a need to convey a strong message to Tamil Nadu, who have been adamant about going ahead with the Rs 1,330 crore drinking water scheme in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri near the Hognekal falls on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border.

The Hognekal falls is fed by the Cauvery River and the sharing of water from this river is a subject matter of litigation. The contention advanced by Karnataka is that TN has no approval of the Union government to go ahead with the project and also an appeal against the verdict of the Cauvery River Waters' Tribunal is pending before the Supreme Court of India.

The Vedike members said that all theatre owners and cable operators have been instructed to stop screening Tamil movies across the state and take Tamil channels off the air from Wednesday onwards. The Vedike members, during their meeting, also decided that they would intensify their protest by blocking Rail and Road traffic across the state.

Further, it was decided to protest in Hognekal on either the April 11 or 12. A decision to call for a Karnataka bandh was also taken, but the date for the same is yet to be finalised. The members decided that the agitation against Tamil Nadu would stop only once the project is halted.

What the Cauvery dispute is about ?

The Cauvery river originates in the Brahmagiri ranges of Kodagu district flows through large parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and also some parts of Kerala and Pondicherry.

No attempt was made to utilise its waters for irrigation until 1883 when the Diwan of the princely state of Mysore launched a scheme. His primary aim was to increase the revenue to the King's coffers. The Diwan's move was resented by the Madras presidency under the British Raj. Thus began the Cauvery dispute which is yet to be solved.

The Cauvery row had some respite after two rounds of talks between the Mysore state and Madras presidency in 1892 and 1924. Mysore was permitted to construct a dam in Kannambadi village to impound 44.8 thousand million cubic feet of water. Madras appropriated to itself the right to construct a dam in Mettur in Selam district to impound 93.5 tmc ft. Madras had what is called prescriptive rights over the upper riparian state of Mysore. Malabar district was then part of the Madras presidency. Malabar is now part of Kerala, and Kerala too has joined the Cauvery fray.

The 1924 agreement was valid for 50 years, after which there was to be a review. It stipulated that Mysore could undertake any extension of irrigation by impounding Cauvery waters only with the prior consent of the Madras presidency. Twelve years after Independence and 15 years before the expiry of the pact, Mysore, by then rechristened Karnataka, wrote to Tamil Nadu, inviting its attention to several clauses, and suggesting changes. Tamil Nadu turned down the plea. Changes, it said, would be contemplated only after the expiry of the pact in 1974.

The central government began an initiative soon after, but the entire issue was given the appearance of a bilateral dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the other two riparian states, namely Kerala and Pondicherry, having been left out until the 1970s.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu had expanded its irrigation by leaps and bounds against the letter and spirit of the agreement. Its acreage increased from 1.665 million in 1924 to 2.82 million by 1971. Karnataka's score showed a rise from 314,000 to 682,000 acres. The agreement had stipulated that Madras was entitled to increase its irrigation land to only 300,000 acres. Mysore's quota was 110,000 acres. Both had violated the agreement.

Countless rounds of talks have taken place to resolve the issue, without any success.

According to a study conducted by the central government in 1972, the utilisation of water from Cauvery in Tamil Nadu was 489 tmc ft against Karnataka's 177 tmc ft. Now Karnataka wants to utilise 465 tmc ft, against its present usage of 312.32 tmc ft. It is against this background that Tamil Nadu went to the Supreme Court.

The Cauvery Water Tribunal, in its interim award of June 1991, ordered that Karnataka release 205 tmc of water to Tamil Nadu during one water year, that is from May to June. It also stipulated a weekly quantum of flow, much to the chagrin of Karnataka. This led to large-scale violence on Tamils living in Karnataka. Karnataka has followed the interim order and has released much more than 205 tmc ft of water every year except during the year 1995-96. This led to the Supreme Court coming down heavily on Karnataka.

The tribunal which had been investigating the issue for 16 years finally came out with its verdict on February 5, awarding 419 tmc ft for Tamil Nadu and 270 tmc ft for Karnataka. Kerala was awarded 30 tmc ft and Pondicherry 7 tmc ft.

The move is likely to be challenged by Karnataka in the Supreme Court.
